Water, roots and forest management

seminar

Wednesday 10.11.2021 at 10–15:30, Teams

Water and its quality and availability are of highest importance for us. Forests, protecting the quality of water reserves, regulating the water flow, and acting as buffers against flooding have an essential role in these processes. Forest management is changing the environment, and in addition, the environment is subject to changes due to global warming. Therefore, it is of great importance to study the versatile role of forests and the effects of forest management on the environment. We also need detailed knowledge on the resilience and resistance of forest ecosystems regarding changing environmental conditions, including extreme weather conditions. In this context, the belowground parts of the trees are of uttermost significance, as roots are important for anchoring the tree to the ground, as well as for water and nutrient uptake. Changes in function and allocation can have significant and unexpected effects on the forest ecosystem and the environment. The full day Seminar, organized by Luke, is devoted to these topical issues.
